Mosaic Mad was started earlier this year by Simone Balman, a Cape Town mosaic enthusiast who wanted to encourage and inspire other mosaic artists or beginners who simply wanted to try their hand at mosaics by providing reasonably-priced tiles to areas where these aren’t readily available.
With her experience overseas of running a major jewellery distributorship as well as ecommerce exposure and web-design, her primary focus is on providing inexpensive mosaic supplies online.
Generally, South Africans have been reluctant to shop online but you can be rest-assured that you will be getting high-quality supplies, very efficient service and secure payment gateways. Mosaic Mad offer various payment methods - credit card (which is processed by Payfast using the latest 3D-Secure encryption), EFT, as well as “Bank Wire” whereby the customer is responsible for direct payment using their own internet banking or direct deposit.
Orders are dispatched the following working day by means of the SA Post Office and a tracking number is sent together with a link for customers to track their items online. Orders arrive within 3 – 5 working days at their destination.
Simone has also focussed on providing useful information in the HOW-TO section of the website and plans are underway to have the largest free pattern library on the web in the hopes that this will provide inspiration.
In the 8 months that they’ve been operating, Mosaic Mad has now grown to be the largest online mosaic “shop” in South Africa with new items being added almost daily.
